About us

About Entrada Travels, a specialist northern Pakistan tour operator

One country, one region, done properly.

Entrada Travels runs guided trips through the mountains of northern Pakistan: the Karakoram, the western Himalaya and the valleys of Azad Kashmir. We work from an office in Johar Town, Lahore, and we do not sell anything outside these ranges.

Entrada means the way in

For most people, northern Pakistan is not a place you drift into. There is a decision, usually a long-postponed one, and then a set of practical questions nobody around you can answer: whether the roads are open, whether your mother can manage the altitude, whether the whole idea is sensible at all.

Our job is that gap. Not the photographs, which the north supplies without any help from us, but the part between deciding to go and standing on the meadow. Permits, jeeps, drivers who know which side of the Raikot track to hold in the afternoon, a guide who will turn a group around when the weather says so.

That is the whole business. Everything else on this site is detail underneath it.

Three kinds of traveller, three different conversations

The trip may be identical. What people need to know before booking it is not.

Overseas Pakistanis coming home

You know the country. You may not know the roads north, or which operator will actually look after your parents at altitude. We handle the logistics so a visit home can include the part of Pakistan most families never get to. Bringing children who have never been is something we plan for constantly, and we pace those trips accordingly.

International visitors, most on a first trip

Almost everyone arriving from outside has read very little that is current. We would rather answer the awkward questions directly than sell you a brochure. Expect a straight account of road conditions, altitude, what the accommodation is really like, and where the trip is genuinely demanding.

Travellers already in Pakistan

Private trips on your own dates, starting from Lahore or Islamabad. Weekend-length itineraries from Islamabad, overnight road departures from Lahore so the driving happens while you sleep.

Five things we hold to

These are operating rules rather than marketing lines. They are the reason some enquiries end with us talking someone out of a trip.

  1. 1

We only sell routes we have walked

Every itinerary on this site has been run by our own team before it went on sale. If we have not done it, it is not listed. That is why the catalogue is short and grows slowly.

  2. 2

The difficulty rating is the real one

A trek described as moderate is moderate. We would rather lose a booking than have someone discover at 3,900 metres that they were sold an easy week.

  3. 3

    The price is the price

What is included is listed in full on every tour page, and so is what is not. Permits, jeep charges and community fees are inside the price so there is nothing to settle at a checkpost.

  4. 4

    Local crews, paid properly

Guides, drivers, cooks and porters are hired from the valleys the trip passes through. The money a trip generates should mostly stay where the trip happens.

  5. 5

The plan bends to the mountain

Passes close, weather turns, flights to Skardu cancel. Our itineraries carry enough slack to absorb a lost day, and the decision on the ground belongs to your guide.

The last one has a page of its own. Read our environmental policy, including the clean up drive we started at Fairy Meadows.
