Swat, Kalam and Mahodand Lake Tour from Lahore

The jeep track to Mahodand depends entirely on road and weather conditions and on the local authorities. The 4x4 is included, but access to the lake cannot be guaranteed. If the route is closed or unsafe we modify the day and offer an alternative where reasonably possible.

The route to Mahodand is a summer and early autumn road, usually open from around May to October. Snow closes the upper valley outside that window. We will advise on your dates.

Leaving Lahore at 10:00 PM means you sleep through the flat part of the drive and reach the valley by morning, which is what makes three days enough. All timings are approximate and depend on traffic and road conditions.

Easy and sightseeing based, with no trekking anywhere on the route. There is walking at Mahodand, Bahrain and around Kalam, but nothing long or steep. Kalam sits at around 2,000m, which most people feel only as slightly shorter breath for the first day.

Evenings in Kalam are cool even in mid summer, and Mahodand is a good deal colder than the valley floor. A warm layer and a light jacket are worth carrying all year.

Breakfast and dinner are included daily. Lunches are left open so the group eats where the day takes you, and the driver will stop where it suits.

This tour runs as one coaster carrying 15 to 18 travellers, so you share the vehicle and the programme with the rest of the group. The route and timings are set rather than built around any one party. If you would rather have the valley to yourselves, we can run the same itinerary as a private trip on your own dates, priced separately.

Yes. The track beyond Kalam is rough and unpaved, and a coaster cannot make it. The 4x4 jeep transfer from Kalam to Mahodand and back is included in the tour price.

Yes. There is no trekking anywhere on the route and the walking at each stop is short and flat. The main consideration is the overnight drive on the first night and the long drive back on the last day, which younger children find tiring. The middle day in Kalam and Mahodand is easy.

Most of our trips are private, but this one is a shared group departure: a single coaster carrying 15 to 18 travellers on a set date and a set programme. That shared cost is what holds the price where it is. If you want the same route privately, on your own dates, we can quote it separately.

Between 15 and 18. The coaster runs once the group reaches 15, and 18 is the most it seats. You book the seats you need and travel with the rest of the group.

Yes, and it is a popular one for teams; the BBQ and bonfire evening in Kalam is usually the part people remember. A team of 15 to 18 fills the coaster on its own, which makes the whole departure yours in practice. We can invoice against the group booking, and at that size the programme can be adjusted around your schedule.

Not on a shared departure, because the route and timings have to work for everyone on board. Small adjustments on the ground are possible where the group agrees. If you want the itinerary reshaped around your own party, ask us for the private version of this trip instead.

Because it turns a four day trip into a three day one. Leaving at 10:00 PM means the flat, unremarkable part of the drive happens while you sleep, and you reach the Swat valley by breakfast with a full day still ahead.

It is a long one, and it is covered overnight for that reason. We do not quote a fixed figure because it depends on traffic, weather, road conditions and rest stops, all of which vary. All timings on the itinerary are approximate.

Coverage in the upper Swat valley is patchy and drops out entirely on the way to Mahodand. Expect to be largely offline for the middle day of the tour.

Comfortable walking shoes, a warm layer and a light jacket for the evenings, sunscreen and sunglasses, any personal medication, and cash for lunches and shopping. Kalam has limited banking, so carry what you will need.

Yes. We run team trips, offsites and company tours, can invoice against the group booking, and can adjust the programme around a work schedule.

Most are. Each page states the difficulty and any consideration for younger travellers. Tell us the ages at the time of booking so seating, rooming and pace can be planned properly.

No. Travel and health insurance is not included in any of our tours. Travellers arrange their own cover, and we strongly recommend it is arranged before departure, including cover for medical emergencies and evacuation.

Mountain travel depends on weather and road conditions, so the itinerary, timings and order of sightseeing can change. Where a disruption forces extra accommodation, meals, transport or a diversion, those additional costs are payable by the group. This is set out in full in our Terms and Conditions.

Each page lists exactly which meals are included. Where a meal is not listed, it is paid directly by travellers as you go.

Every page carries a What Is Not Included section. As a rule, anything not specifically listed under What Is Included should be considered excluded.

The routes we operate are well travelled and we run them regularly. We follow the guidance of local authorities, adjust plans where conditions require it, and our drivers and guides know these valleys. Ordinary travel precautions apply as they would anywhere.

Some areas require a No Objection Certificate or a permit, and requirements change. Tell us at the time of enquiry if any traveller holds a foreign passport and we will confirm what is needed for that route.

Almost all of them. Everything we run in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is open to foreign passport holders. Our Azad Kashmir trips are the exception: those are open to Pakistani nationals and overseas Pakistanis only, on a CNIC, NICOP or Pakistani passport.
